It is Deepavali in the air

Deepavali is just a day away and the various communities in the city are gearing up to celebrate the festival, which symbolises the victory of good over evil. The Kerala Banga Samskriti Sangh, an organisation of the Bengali community, has drawn up various programmes for Deepavali day.Being the last major festival of the year, the community members are expected to turn up in full strength for the celebrations.

The celebrations will start with lighting of diyas (lamps) at individual households in the evening. Thereafter members will gather at the Ravindra Bhavan, Kadavanthra, for night-long celebrations.

Utkalika – The Cochin Oriya Association held an Odissi recital in the city on Sunday marking the onset of Deepavali celebrations. Except for the dance performance, the rest of our celebrations are mostly confined to individual households, Jaganath Swain, the secretary of the organisation said.
