Homage to Guruvayur Kesavan

The elephants of the Sree Krishna temple here were taken in a solemn procession to pay tribute to their legendary peer Guruvayur Kesavan on its 31st death anniversary on Tuesday.
The pachyderms, without their glittering caparisons, stood before the statue of Kesavan on the temple premises for a while, raised their trunks and the team leader paid floral tributes to the tusker.

Thirty elephants, led by tusker Padmanabhan, shuffled along the temple street till the Sreevatsom compound adjacent to the shrine.Hundreds of devotees and elephant lovers thronged the sidewalks as the pachyderms marched from the east street of the temple town to the statue of Guruvayur Kesavan at the Sreevatsom compound.

A framed picture of Kesavan was borne by baby elephant Adityan. The life of Kesavan is closely linked with the temple lores and the tusker is known for his majestic looks, intelligence and devotion to the presiding deity of the temple whom he had served for decades, sources said.
