Ayurveda doctors on the warpath

Ayurveda doctors are on the warpath to protest against the Government’s alleged neglect of this ancient system of medicine. Representatives of Ayurveda Medical Association of India said at a press conference here on Tuesday that though Ayurveda, as part of mainstream health care, has been envisaged under the Union Government’s National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) no programmes under the scheme were being implemented in the State.

All NRHM programmes currently being implemented in the State pertain to the promotion of modern medicine and nothing was being done to bring Ayurveda into mainstream health care, they said. Even the funds allotted for promoting Ayurveda under NRHM were being diverted for other schemes, the association alleged.
