Functioning of state and central government offices and state-run schools in Kerala was on Tuesday affected by the all-India strike called by pro-Left unions to protest the Centre's policies including the move to introduce participatory pension scheme and dilute the Provident Fund scheme.
The stir, however, did not affect the public conveyance system as motor transport workers were not participating. Essential services like hospitals had been exempted from the strike. Other demands include withdrawal of the move to bring in the PF Regulatory Bill in Parliament, interim relief for the employees and appointment of a commission for revision of pay of Extra Departmental employees.
