The water level in the Mullapperiyar dam, helped by incessant rains in the past few days, has touched the maximum permissible level of 136 ft.The water has now started flowing into the Idukki reservoir through the spillway, raising concerns about the safety of the dam.
The district authorities have issued warnings to those living on the banks of Periyar downstream. The water level has been steadily raising for the past few days, because of the torrential rains in the dam's catchment area.
