Barring stray incidents of attacks, situation in the politically sensitive pockets around the neighbouring Thalassery town, where a CPI-M sympathiser was murdered allegedly by RSS workers yesterday, by and large remained peaceful, police said.
In an isolated attack as a sequel to political clashes during the last few days, a CPI-M worker was targeted by a group of alleged BJP workers near Kathirur. The grievously injured Pavithran was shifted to a private hospital in Kozhikode. A peace meet involving the RSS and the CPI (M) leadership was held at the behest of the Thalassery RDO in which both the parties assured to take adequate steps to prevent spread of violence, sources said.
Meanwhile, a day-long CPI (M) hartal in Thalassery and nearby Mahe enclave of Puducherry to protest yesterday's murder of a party sympathiser today evoked near total response with most shops downing their shutters as public opted to keep indoors.
