Overflowing sewage tank poses a threat at Pampa

The sewage collection tank of the 450-member latrine complex at Pampa Manalpuram on the banks of river Pampa was found leaking into the waterlogged area behind a row of hotels, posing epidemic threat on the foothills of Sabarimala.

The low-lying area adjoining the sewage collection tank behind the lane of hotels and shops at Pampa Manalpuram has already turned into a squalid pool of waste water, leaving it a breeding place for mosquitoes and other flies. The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) officials told The Hindu that pumping of sewage from the collection tanks at Pampa to the sewage treatment plant at Cheriyanavattom was yet to begin owing to the power supply disruption during day time.

Meanwhile, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) officials said that the power supply disruption was due to the repair and maintenance work at the sub-station as well as transmission network at Pampa and Sabarimala.
