Firming up plans to build a new dam at Mullaperiyar in place of the 111-year-old structure, Kerala water resources minister N K Premachandran on Monday sought Tamil Nadu's co-operation for the project and said the blueprint and estimate for it would be drawn up in a year.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the project office for the new dam at Kumali near here, he said Kerala was keen on avoiding a conflict with Tamil Nadu over the issue. He said he expected full co-operation from the neighbour state for the new dam in place of the old one, "which poses a safety threat to people in the downstream areas."
