In a move to settle the month-long 'non-cooperation' strike by state service doctors, the Kerala Government on Friday enhanced their allowances but the doctors' association maintained that it would carry on the stir, saying most vital demands were not met.
The special package, approved by the State cabinet, contained certain new allowances, fringe benefits, new posts and creation of the 'speciality administrative cadre' together entailing an additional commitment of Rs 25 crore a year. Kerala Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) leaders said they would take forward their struggle as their key demand of pay revision had not been met and whatever concessions made by the government fell far short of expectations.
Over 1600 doctors, serving district and taluk hospitals and primary health centres, have been on a work-to-rule by boycotting all kinds of special duties. Several rounds of discussions held by the government had failed to settle the stir.
