Joining issue, Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today refuted Defence Minister A K Antony's statement that the state had not availed the amount released by the Centre under the agriculture package.
In a statement here, Achuthanandan said the Centre had declared that a Rs 765 crore package would be provided as assistance to the agriculture sector in Wayanad, Palakkad and Kasaragod districts. With the state government mounting pressure on the Centre, the M S Swaminathan commission was appointed to study the problems in Kuttanad in Alappuzha district and recommended a Rs 1840 crore project, which was yet to be approved by the Centre.
Achuthanandan said even though the state had three Union Ministers,they were not making any effort to protect the interests of farmers in the state.
