Guruvayur: Girls sad over astrologers' verdict on churidar-kurta

The jyotishis headed by Padmanabha Sarma of Irinjalakkuda at the Ashtamangalprasnam at Guruvayur could have had their valid reasons for concluding that the dress reforms for women devotees entering the Lord Krishna temple was not much liked by the deity.

Though they are not concerned about the row going on between the astrologers and the Devaswom Committee over the astrological finding, they are concerned that their favourite dress cannot be flashed inside the temple.

We were happy when the decision to permit this dress had come some two months ago," said Neelima, a girl from Thrissur town. "I was also one of the very first girls to enter the temple in churidar-kurta. But all that happiness is now gone. They may decide against the dress now," she further added . Neeti Singh from Uttar Pradesh, who is on vacation in Thrissur, said in front of the Vadakkunnathan temple that she was surprised to read the news item about churidar-kurta in the newspapers.

Meanwhile, the findings of jyotishis has landed the Guruvayur temple administration body in a controversy with committee chairman Thottathil Raveendran and Tanthri (chief priest) Chennas Raman Namboothiri making allegations against each other. While Raveendran claims that the reform had the permission from the Tanthri, the latter says he had given permission under pressure. But a Chennas Dinesan Namboothiri, a close relative of the Tanthri said he should not have succumbed to any pressures because this was a matter of Lord Krishna.
