Today, when the Telcom’s much awaited Smart City is becoming a reality, Kochi is making an all out effort to establish and maintain an image of being one of the most congenial hubs for emerging industries like IT.
According to reports, many IT conglomerates are looking for alternative cities and Kochi has become one of their favourite destinations. The greatest advantage of Kochi is that it has always moved with the times. Apart from the broadband advantage, Kochi has a definite edge over rest of the IT centres in the country due to its qualified manpower. The city is known in the IT and BPO circles for its power-packed human resources. Several reputed companies, consultants, professional colleges, training institutes and allied organisations in the domain of IT and ITES have already made their presence in the city and are looking forward to make Kochi into one of their strong operational bases in the country.
With Kochi fast becoming an IT hub, there are several thousands of IT professionals from the state who are working in various locations in the country waiting to return to God’s Own Country. The only thing that they expect here is the right ambience to work which has, of late, turned quite conducive. Entrepreneurs are of the opinion that the market for IT related activities is on the rise in Kerala and to be precise, Kochi is leading the way.
Apart from the IT sector, the BPO sector is also registering a significant growth in Kochi. As of now, a number of BPO companies are having their operational base in Kochi and according to industry sources more such companies are on the anvil. And with all these, Kochi is experiencing a shortage of IT manpower. Resultantly, HR consultancy services in Kochi have gathered much momentum in the recent past. It has even turned out to be a specific area of business activity. The ambitious project called Smart City, on its completion, is all likely to generate direct employment to at least 90,000 people. This is indicative of the huge future job potential that Kochi has in its fold.
